POCKET units were originally tested in a variety of formats at the lead partner institution, the University of Derby. The VLE at Derby is Blackboard Academic Suite Version 8. The individual file size limit on this version of Blackboard is 7mb and the University advise files should be kept to a limit of 2mb. This could cause an issue with the Customer Service units which contain a lot of video files. Streaming the videos from the University server could be a solution to this issue.

I have found transferring learning units downloaded directly from OpenLearn into Blackboard to be quite tricky and have sought advice from CETIS and the E-Learning Development Team at Derby on this issue.

The POCKET materials are available to download in the following formats from OpenLearn (if the original content has been uploaded in an OU XML Package):

  1. IMS Content Package:
  2. IMS Common Cartridge 1.0: Both supported by CETIS as standard: http://wiki.cetis.ac.uk/Educational_Content_standards
  1. Plain Zip (HTML pages)
  2. Moodle Backup

NOTE ABOUT BROWSERS: I have tested the units in Blackboard using Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer. Firefox seems to be the least reliable in successfully showing the content in Blackboard.
