Conclusions

Page history last edited by Sarah Darley 9 mos ago

After investigating into the interoperability issues surrounding the POCKET materials, the following formats will hopefully be the most sustainable and the most useful after the project has ended:

IMS Content Package

I have uploaded the POCKET units developed from the University of Derby material in IMS CP format on to the POCKET collaboration space on OpenLearn:

Customer Service Skills

Introduction to Customer Service

Responding to Customer Needs

Market Research Methods

Analysis and Presentation of Data

Writing a Report

International Economic Law

Use on Blackboard

After much experimentation, the Blackboard system available at Derby does not appear to be able to handle IMS Content Packages very successfully. For this reason I decided to also provide the POCKET units in HTML format for use on Blackboard.

This involved:

  • Replacing the existing CSS file with the CSS file I had previously edited for the IMS Content Packages to get consistent fonts
  • Deleting any cases in which the HTML had been copied twice in a page (including pages of descriptions for images)

SCORM

I used the CETIS Transcoder tool to convert a POCKET IMS package to a SCORM 2004 package. Although this format still didn't work in Blackboard it created another format for the POCKET materials to be available in.

Making the resources available to the POCKET team

The POCKET units need to be available in the most interoperable format after the end of the project, so that the academic authors of the material can easily use them in their day-to-day teaching. The materials will therefore be made available in the following areas:

  1. On OpenLearn in OU XML format: All the POCKET materials are avilable to view on LabSpace and can be downloaded in a variety of formats

  2. On the POCKET collaboration area in IMS CP format: POCKET materials developed from University of Derby material can be viewed in IMS CP format

All the POCKET materials will also be available to view and download from JorumOpen when it is fully developed.
